"Rogue Trader"

My latest read is "Rogue Trader" by Nick Leeson... I was a trader in India and every sickening feeling the protagonist feels in the novel is something i went through perhaps in a much smaller scale and proportion considering the range of mistake he made bringing down a bank and all!! Almost every trader makes mistakes, That's a fact - whether they accept or deny is immaterial.

I have a hell lot to write on my trading days ( not that my trading days are over or anything, but i am not employed full-time in the trading line anymore - thankfully?!! not sure)... you see the worst of people in that line... and very rarely, the best as well! It pays you really well, but all that money never ever compensates for the perpetual headache it causes!

Will write on that more sometime later...

Have a great day!!

Quotable Quotes :)

My initial experience going to a library and that too a big one i.e. The British Council library in New Delhi, India was an extremely boring one. For some weird reason i decided i wanted to read about Morse-code and something complicated like that ( god knows to please whom?! ) ... Anyways, i did read some such stuff ( and i was just a school student)  - so it goes without saying i was in a semi-doze kind of situation...

After i had sufficiently killed myself with boredom and feeling awkward to look all around the library for more options ( coz i was young and stupid and very conscious that some people were watching my movement around the place)... i was pushed to a level where i  just HAD to move out of the seat i thought i was going to stay glued in, lest my snores are heard all around... i pushed myself around the place to finally find something that interested me!

Quotes, by some interesting authors... and i would love to share it in my blog ( more importantly coz the piece of paper i scribbled them in, is showing increasing signs of losing itself where i cannot find it forever!).

Here goes: -

Oxford Dictionary of Quotations:

by ULYSSES (1922)

"A man of genius makes no mistake.
His errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery."

by SHAKESPEARE

" Virtue that transgresses is but patched with sin;
and sin that amends is but patched with virtue."

"Love sought is good,
  but giv'n unsought is better"

"But be not afraid of greatness;
  some men are born great,
  some achieve greatness,
and some have greatness thrust upon them."

"Age - I do abhor thee,
  Youth, I do adore thee."

" Though i am not naturally honest,
I am so sometimes by chance."

by GEORGE BERNARD SHAW

" I enjoy convalescence.
It is the part that makes illness worthwhile."

" When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of,
he always declares that it is his duty."

" A man of great common sense and good taste,
meaning thereby a man without originality or moral courage."

"What really flatters a man is that you think him worth flattering."

"He who can, does.
  He who cannot, teaches"

"He knows nothing; and he thinks he knows everything.
That points clearly to a political career."

"Beware of the man who does not return your blow;
he neither forgives you nor allows you to forgive yourself."

"Take care to get what you like,
or you will be forced to like what you get."

These were a choice few i took from that huge dictionary - love each one of them!

New years' resolution right on track!!

It is immensely pleasurable if IF IFFFFFFFFF you can stick to a task you think is immensely tedious but see that you Still do it! :) I have about 15 Kgs to lose and lose fast , more importantly need to keep it down at that level long term. So managed to join the gym where my husband is a member already and make him, as well as self, stick to the absolute joy of going through the grind 1 hour daily 6-7 am . What a pleasure! - The very thought that we could get up at 5 am, leave for and come back from the gym on time, leave for work on time as well!!

We are both quite aware of the fact that we might not see results for months together, but someday we will if we keep at it!

The best thing about Virgin Active ( i.e. the gym i joined here in SA) is that you see other absolutely dedicated people, keepin' their nose down to the grind with full determination! This place also provides with aerobics, spinning, swimming pool etc. So, you are not stuck feeling bored doing just the normal routines, machines, tread mills and weights. Nothing like some variety and good company!

To anybody who wishes to lose weight - Everyday workout IS absolutely worth it - for the present moment but more importantly -for long term!!

Water woes

For ever and ever... i.e. approximately 20 years ago( :D )when i started comprehending the yelling and babbling in most localities and societal regions in India about limited water supply - i was led to believe that India is the only shoddy godforsaken place which has the stupidest Municipality system etc. etc.B.U.T. now there is a worse-off place or equally shoddy godforsaken place in another part of the world which shares India's woes... or so it seems to me!

Our very own Midrand, Jo'burg or well my housing complex (to be more precise) has in my overall 4 month stay has had atleast 5-6 water cuts without Anyone having a clue on what is happening, and Neither are they curious!  Atleast in India, you hear a lot of ascension in decibel levels, ye ol' ladies yelling away or some old blighted man going bonkers throwing his chappal ( slippers) at whosoever he thinks is responsible for whatever is wrong and adding some unrelated woes on this one water problem in his narration/ yelling.

Here in Midrand even if you knock on the door and ask a neighbour or strain your ears for any sound/trace of disapproval - you shall return thoroughly disappointed! Nobody is vocal!! I cannot say they are not irritated, but usually they go about whatever they are supposed to do - water or no water! Perhaps what got me immensely mad was the fact that i saw atleast 4 people ready and on their way out of the complex with office-overalls ties, shoes, etc etc - when there wasn't even a drop of water to brush or even flush your toilet!

I was curious! How exactly did they reach that stage in adorning raiments when we couldn't even get through the stage of brushing and flushing?!!

The basic system is to have a care-taker in the housing complex ( ours doesn't even live here inside the complex!) for discussing issues and possibly getting a solution out of. But the norm is when you call him, he actually gets the news from you and has no idea whatsoever!

Then you decide you want to yell at your estate-agent; who again duly shirks off the responsibility or knowledge as basically "water is governed by the Municipality".

Municipality won't pick your calls as they know they blocked out the water without informing!!

Solution: Get the bloody hell out of the complex as soon as you can find a better -"without water woes"-place; given that you do find something like that at all!

Unlimited unchecked emails...

I have 4625 unchecked emails on my gmail and about 10000 of em' overall :D... never the one to be able to sort through  the mails considering the number of forums and what-not's i have joined for supposed 'useful' information! But the updates keep coming thick and fast and the Absolute chore of having to sort or go through them is too much!!! All i can ever cover are a couple each visit online.

I tried labeling and moving, but that itself is like a task for a week-long holiday!

Perhaps the One thing i can do with them is leave for the time i am 80 and alive (?!), read and reply to whosoever for whatsoever about 70 decades later :D... not a bad idea hmm...
